The Victorian Institute of Technology (VIT) was founded in 1998 and first registered as a proprietary limited company with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) as the Victorian Institute of Information Technology Pty Ltd with a focused concentration on consulting and educational studies in Information Technology. Following the Institute receiving official status as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) in the year 2000, the scope of delivery was expanded to include Business studies, Hospitality, and ELICOS. In 2003 the company changed its registered name to the Victorian Institute of Technology Pty Ltd with the Australian Company Number 085 128 525.
VIT is a dual-sector provider with registration with the relevant National Bodies to deliver approved courses as follows:
